Cheap hard drive - the guide to storage drives (hard disks)
When buying a new harddrive, There are three main types:
SCSI, ATA, and SATA.
These different types of hard drives suit different types of buyers. If you want to have a hard drive with maximum speed, take another look at SCSI hard drives. They are pretty expensive, and you could get about the same performance at a cheaper price if you choose a SATA hard drive. A SATA hard drive is the successor to the ATA hard drive, which is slowly becoming out-dated. Personally I would go for a SATA hard drive, because it provides some much-needed upgrade compared to the older ATA hard drives. Am ATA hard drive will do okay, but - unless money is no issue at all to you - I would recommend against SCSI hard drives. You simply get too little extra when buying a SCSI hard drive compared to SATA hard drives. My advice to you when you choose a cheap hard drive is to go for the ones with fluid drive. Hard drives with fluid drive are much more silent that the ones without, and if you plan to spend more than a few hours a month in front of your computer, the few extra bucks a silent hard drive will cost you will definitely turn out to be a good and reasonable investment.
